Meant To Be - A Decade Together [Our Love Story]

Ten. Years.

Sometimes if baffles me that I'm old enough to have done anything for 10 years straight. It's flown by and then again we've done so much.

It worked out for us that our wedding day and dating anniversary fell on the same day, so today marks three years married, but ten together.

In today's post I want to share a story with you that is so special to me, one that I hold near and dear to my heart. I've wanted to share it before, but haven't been able to get it out in the way I want to. Finally now, for our 10 year anniversary, I think I'm finally ready to put it out there!

I created the video below as a surprise for Brian today! The footage is from our wedding and our (yes, our) first communion along with some pictures from over the years. I may not be the best video editor out there but I'm happy with how it came out and I'm excited to share it with you. Hope you enjoy! After you watch the video, read on for the background story.

So now that you've watched that, let me give some history and why this is so special to us.

I've shared a bit about my and Brian's story over the years but in case you need a recap: we met freshman year of high school, became friends, and eventually started dating half way through junior year. And the rest is history! (Here's our engagement story, wedding content, and my most recent Q&A for more details and looooots of wedding pictures!)

I will always remember the first day of high school, I came home and told my mom there was only one cute boy in any of my classes - can you guess who that was?

We officially became a couple on this day in 2008, when Brian came over to my house to watch Legally Blonde (we had made a deal to watch each other's favorite movies, his was Transformers at the time) we didn't know that day would be the first of the rest of our lives together.

One day, about two years later, my mom and I were going through old photo albums and I saw the picture in the video of me walking down the aisle for my First Communion. Who knows how or why but I noticed the boy in the picture and thought it looked like Brian (we knew we had grown up going to the same church, but didn't think we had ever met before high school).

I took the picture over to his house to see what he and his parents thought and sure enough - that was him - we received our First Communion together! We both dug out our family videos from that day and I can't even tell you the feelings I had seeing those videos for the first time.

Chills, tears, the works. We were already a very serious couple, pretty much from day one, but in that moment I felt like our relationship went to the next level. It sounds SO cheesy but I truly felt like God was telling me - yes, this is your soulmate.

Now years later I still get tears in my eyes when I see our little 7 and 8 year old selves holding hands in the exact same spot that we said our vows to each other on our wedding day. It is still unbelievable to me!

During our wedding reception we shared a video with our guests of the footage from both family videos, which is why the clips are labeled in my anniversary video. The craziest part was how both of our dads (who were the ones filming the communion) framed up the videos to have me AND Brian in almost every shot. You'd think people would center the camera on just their kid, but someone greater was working on His own plan!

Brian - I am so grateful for you. It really feels like we're still those two teenagers doing math homework together after school. But to look back over the last ten years and see all that we've accomplished together - it amazes me! I can't imagine any of it without you. I love you so much and I love the life we have together. We're on our greatest adventure yet with little Avery, and every day just keeps getting better! Love you babe, xo.
