Life Update + Announcement!

I feel really presumptuous starting this out "you might have noticed I haven't posted on the blog in the last few months" because truth be told you probably didn't notice at all!  But on the off chance that you did... I'm back, and here to tell you where I've been!

I'm a lot more nervous about posting this than I thought I would be, but I won't make you wait any longer...

Brian and I are expecting!!

It is absolutely insane to be typing that!  I can't tell you for how many years I've dreamed of sharing this news.  Being a mom is the only thing I've ever truly wanted in life and I feel so blessed to finally be on the journey now.

Our lives are going to change forever but I just can't wait to meet this little miracle!  It's just amazing what a woman's body can do and how two cells can grow into a fully functioning human in just 9 months.  My mind is continuously blown!  I will never be able to express how thankful I am to be experiencing all of this.

Let me rewind a few months and fill you in on what's been happening with this pregnancy:

The Two Week Wait

If you've been pregnant or are trying to get pregnant then you know about the "two week wait".  It's basically the two weeks that you need to wait before taking a home pregnancy test to get accurate results.  I was so so scared of seeing a false "Not Pregnant" result so I was adamant about waiting the full two weeks.

Well one weekend a few days before what I was considering the official two week mark I couldn't take it any more.  So I got up before Brian and took a test.  My heart was pounding out of my chest as I tried to wait for the two minutes to go by.  I ended up looking before the timer was up and I could not believe my eyes - it was positive!  I think seeing that made my heart start pounding even harder.

I ran into our bedroom and woke Brian up to tell him.  I made him look at the test to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me.  Sure enough, it was positive, and I started crying as soon as he confirmed!

Telling Our Parents

We decided to wait a few days to tell our parents so we had time to order an announcement shirt that said "Guess What?" and had little baby footprints on the stomach.  Not telling my mom immediately was the hardest thing ever!  She always knows when I'm keeping something from her too so I was worried she would ask me before I had a chance to tell her.

The weekend after Brian and I found out, we were going on a trip with my mom and dad so we decided to tell them when they came to pick us up - I walked out wearing the shirt and once they realized what it said they were both really surprised and then, once it all sank in, really happy and excited!

When we got home from that trip we used the shirt to tell Brian's parents as well, they too were surprised and super excited!

First Trimester

I consider myself to have had a really good first trimester.  I didn't really have morning sickness, I usually just felt a little queasy at night but luckily could just go to bed and try to ignore it.  The main symptom I experienced was fatigue - big time.  I've never been so tired - I'm sure I'll laugh at what I thought "tired" was once the baby is actually here though.

Being so tired is why I was MIA from blogging and social media for a few months.  I would literally get home from work, eat dinner, and go to bed (if I hadn't already fallen asleep on the couch!).  There was no time for creating captions and editing pictures, let alone creating new content to post, but I'm so glad to be back now!

The hardest part about the first trimester was not telling anyone!  We decided to only share the news with our parents until we were through the first three months.  Before we shared the news I loved reading other blogs and watching YouTube videos about other peoples experiences, and while I wasn't ready to publicly document my journey from the very beginning I was thankful to those who did - so I want to share my journey starting now, and I hope it's helpful to even just one person.  When you've never done this before it is so nice to be able to read/hear about how it's going for other women.

When we finally got to week 13 it was so much fun to tell our family and friends that a baby is on the way!

Second Trimester

I am still in my second trimester, baby is due in February 2018.  Right on time at the start of trimester two I definitely felt some of my energy return.  I still get tired at times but I have been feeling pretty much like myself again.  Now the biggest thing that is changing and affecting the way I feel is this belly!  It just started really showing in the last week or so.  I love it!  It makes me feel so good to know this little one is growing in there and I love having this tiny companion 24/7.

We still don't know the gender but will be finding out soon!  The anticipation is kind of killing me but I also love it because it is going to be that much more exciting when we finally find out.  I keep going back and forth on what I think baby is, and I will be absolutely thrilled either way!

I'm excited to finally be sharing this huge announcement with you all!  I know there are so many mamas and mamas-to-be out there and I can't wait to connect with all of you.
