New Mom Q&A

Today I am going to be answering some of your questions about being a new mom!  I asked for questions on Instagram, so make sure you're following along to catch the next time.

Any advice for couples getting ready to start a family?

Enjoy the journey!  When you get pregnant, you've started this ride that you can't get off.  Okay that sounds more negative than I intended it to be, but I just mean that you need to be ready for anything and everything because you really have no idea how pregnancy, birth, baby, etc will go.  Try to relax (I know how hard that is to do!) and just go with the flow.  Not saying I took my own advice here but looking back I wish I would have just enjoyed it all a little more and not worried so much!

When do babies walk and talk?

Every baby is different but they start walking and talking (actual words not just babbles) around a year old.  Some will walk first, some will talk first, you just never know what these kids will do!

When did you first feel like a mom?

Honestly, I still don't feel like a mom.  I know I am a mom and everything I do and think about revolves around my baby, but its one of those weird things that is hard to describe.  Just like with other big milestones in your life, you think it'll be so different after X happens, but then it happens and you find yourself still you.  I guess I'm lucky that motherhood hasn't totally changed who I am, but I still feel like myself, just with a baby who depends on me to live! (No pressure!)

How did you lose the baby weight?

As of a few days ago I am officially back down to my pre-pregnancy weight (thanks Pure Barre)!  Avery is 2 weeks shy of 6 months old, which is way longer than I thought it would take but still pretty good.  I did a full post on this topic here.

Have you adjusted to being back a work?

I guess so?  I guess it will never feel like it did before because now I have a little human constantly on my mind!  I've gotten used to the routine but I still miss Avery like crazy every minute of every day.  Every mom probably feels like that but we all put on a happy face and get our -ish done.

When did Avery start to sleep through the night?

By 14 weeks she was consistently sleeping through the night, which I think is awesome.  Some parents will brag about their 2 week old sleeping thr

ough the night but you're not even supposed to let your newborn do that so I think they're full of it!  Haha!  Anyways we didn't really do anything special other than let her make the routine.  Since then she's been sleeping 9-10 hours a night and I can't thank her enough for that!

Is being a mom what you expected?

In some ways.  It's definitely way harder than I ever thought, and I expected it to be hard.  There's some things you don't even know you'll experience until you're a mom so it's hard to have expectations.  I know I love being a mom as much as I thought I would though!

Do you consider yourself a young mom?

So, background, I was 24 when I got pregnant, 25 when I had Avery, and just turned 26 and I do consider myself a young mom.  I know there are teen moms and all that and people who have kids right after college, but in my circle of friends I'm definitely the youngest mom.  Most of my friends with kids are in their 30's and my friends from college are still years away from babies.  I'd love to know what you consider a 'young mom' so leave me a comment!

That's all for now folks! Feel free to leave any other questions in the comments and I'll see ya on the 'gram :)
