5 Tips for Dressing the Bump for the Office

Getting ready for work in the morning can be a daunting task when your belly is growing at a rapid pace.  Every day can feel like a new adventure when it comes to what fits and what doesn't.  Today I'm sharing a few tips and tricks on what has been working for me lately and where I've been shopping maternity now that I'm 24 weeks and definitely can not wear regular clothes anymore!

Keep reading for all of my tips and links to shop the looks!

First up is this look from the online maternity shop, Pink Blush.  I absolutely love everything on the site because they have such cute maternity clothes.  Both my top and pants are from the site, which offers free shipping in the US and were provided to me for review.  I reached out to the brand to work together because I literally want every single thing they sell!  Bonus - they also sell non-maternity clothes!

Tip #1 - Go big!  When it comes to maternity there is a 100% chance of you getting bigger than you are now, so size up.  As you can see this top has plenty of room to grow, unfortunately I didn't take my own advice on the pants and after wearing them in the office all day I wish I would have sized up.

I love wearing this outfit because it makes me feel a bit like my old self again.  I feel put together and chic - rare when you're suddenly 10+ lbs heavier...

Tip #2 - Look for a loose fit.  In the same vain as tip #1, a loose fit will not only keep you comfortable it is (in my opinion) a bit more professional.  When I'm doing a presentation to a group of directors the last thing I want them to be focusing on is my belly, they need to listen to what I'm saying!  Obviously this gets harder and harder to follow the bigger you get because, let's face it, clothes can only get so large!  But this is something I'm keeping in mind for now.

Next up is this pretty floral print dress from Motherhood Maternity.  I got so many compliments when I wore this the other day!  The flutter sleeves and ruffle bottom give it that feminine touch and the tie at the waist helps give you a bit of shape.

Tip #3 - Dresses are your BFF!  I have always loved wearing dresses (mostly because I can not stand to sit at my desk all day in pants! So uncomfortable!) and being pregnant hasn't changed that.  Plus, dresses give a lot of flexibility for the bump.  Not to mention they make those hourly trips to the restroom that much quicker :P  (If you're pregnant you know that is no joke!)

Tip #4 - The devil is in the details.  Just like with any fashion, details make the look.  As I mentioned before the feminine touches and defined waist on this dress are what makes it look better than your typical sack o' potatoes maternity dress.  Look for pieces that have something of interest.  Even my top in the first look - it's got more of a boxy shape, but the scalloped hem and sleeves draw your eye.

Tip #5 - Accessorize!  Again, this tip really applies any time, but especially when you've got a reduced wardrobe to work with, turn to your shoes and jewelry to change up your looks.  A statement earring or necklace can really spice things up with minimal effort (though in that first trimester of exhaustion, even putting in earrings was to much for me!).

Well that's all for now folks!  If you are currently expecting or have been in the past, what are your tips on professional maternity wear?  I'd love to connect in the comments below!

One last thing I wanted to mention was new hair tool I used to get ready with these looks - it's got a super cute name - Rootie the Rootlifter!  It's somewhat similar to a crimper, but you just use it on your roots and cover it up with a layer of straight hair, kind of genius really.  I thought it gave nice volume!  I received the product for testing so I think it's something I'll use for special occasions, but the results weren't mind blowing, which is maybe good.  Just some natural looking volume with not a lot of effort (always a bonus ;)).
